It’s the superfruit you’ve probably never heard of, but it’s official - guarana is having a moment. This small fruit, native to the Amazon basin, somewhat bizarrely resembles a human eyeball, with a bright red shell encasing a pupil-like black seed, encased within the white flesh of the fruit. It is this seed which is crushed into a powder and used as in ingredient in a variety of products, from drinks to beauty products. Traditionally used by Amazonian tribesmen, who discovered this caffeine-rich fruit kept them hunting without hunger pangs for days, there are many benefits to this fabulous super fruit, which we’ll explore here.
Rich in antioxidants
Similarly to green tea, guarana is full of compounds rich in antioxidant properties - however, studies have shown than guarana seeds can contain up to ten times more antioxidants than green tea!
